COVID Testing of Students to Pause for Week
Dear Long Beach Unified Community,
Thank you for your support in helping us successfully reopen our classrooms in person – and keep them open – for the fall semester. We have especially appreciated the patience of students and staff while we have conducted asymptomatic COVID-19 testing of unvaccinated students for the first three weeks of school. At this point, we have conducted approximately 60,000 tests resulting in a positivity rate of less than 1%. This low rate is a testament to the hard work families, students and staff have put in over the last few weeks.
As you know, asymptomatic testing is just one of many precautionary measures being taken to manage any potential COVID-19 cases in our schools. We now plan to pause testing for a week as we further analyze our data in consultation with health officials, and we will keep you informed about further plans as we move forward.
Again, we’re thankful for the tremendous community effort that has helped us to bring students back to classrooms where they can best learn and grow.
With deep appreciation,
Jill
